I direct the Human Brain Evolution Lab at Indiana University, where we use a variety of research methods to explore what may be inferred about the evolution of human behavior and its coevolution with the brain. While we will never have a complete understanding of every last detail of our evolutionary history (as is true of any type of history), there is clearly more that can be learned: We do not know yet the limits of what we can and cannot say about our past. A full understanding (or as full as we can hope to know) will never derive solely from any single source of information, but instead requires combining as many information sources as possible. For these reasons we have combined function brain imaging, structural brain imaging, human and comparative primate behavioral research, computational simulations, and a variety of statistical tools - along with extensive interdisciplinary discussions - to further these goals.
